There’s something special about driving through Adrian on a beautiful summer day as the bright blue sky provides the perfect background for the red, white and blue. Flags line the roadside, each dancing gracefully in the wind, the sun shines a spotlight on the thirteen stripes and fifty delicately stitched stars.
What’s even more wistful is witnessing this incredible display of patriotism on Flag Day, June 14th. What a beautiful summer day in the mid-seventies, a marvelous day to reflect on the flag. People across the United States celebrate Flag Day on June 14 each year to honor the United States flag and to commemorate the flag’s adoption. On the same day, the United States Army celebrates its birthday.
In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; on August 3, 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.
As Flag Day passes and Fourth of July peeks up upon the horizon, join us in celebrating our red, white and blue. The Adrian Kiwanis Club has a patriotic fundraising project called the Avenue of the Flags. All Adrian residents and businesses are invited to participate! The Avenue of the Flags is a community service project where the Adrian Kiwanis Club will place the United States flag in front of your home or business on 6 significant days annually. Those days are Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, 9-11, and Veteran’s Day. It’s our prayer here at The Wagley Group that we continue to stand united around our flag, the red, the white, and the blue.
