We celebrate the unsung hero of the home, your dog! The annual Dog Days of Summer
event is back on August 5, 2022, as a part of Downtown Adrian’s First Friday event. Proceeds
will benefit The Lenawee Humane Society. No registration or costume is required to participate.
The fun starts at 5:30 PM with the parade lineup and a family reunion group picture behind
The Wagley Group office in the parking lot off from Winter Street. The parade will start
promptly at 6:00 PM led by both Adrian College mascot Bruiser-with members of the cheer team and Siena Heights University mascot Halo!
Contests will immediately follow the parade in the vacant lot of the old Jean Christopher building. This year’s costume contests are sponsored by First Presbyterian Church with prizes donated by Tasty
Treats of Adrian. The contests include Best Homemade Costume, Most Original Costume,
Cutest Costume, and Funniest Costume. The judges back by popular demand include
Mayor Angie Sword-Heath, Veterinarian Dr. Mike Herr, and Dog Trainer Ted Aranda.
Next up in our unsung hero celebration will be a pie eating contest presented by the
Lenawee Humane Society. Line up with your dog, grab a whipped cream filled plate,
wait for the green flag from one of the volunteers, then slurp away to see which dynamic
duo finishes first! There will be 3 categories-small dogs, medium dogs and large dogs
with a prize in each category.
Continue to celebrate your dog throughout Downtown Adrian by fetching a PawsPort
from The Wagley Group, The Lenawee Humane Society, the First Presbyterian Church
or any participating downtown business. Visit the downtown area businesses, get your
PawsPort stamped, and then turn your card back in at The Wagley Group by 8:00 PM.
This allows you to enter a contest to WIN a Yeti cooler filled with goodies presented by
participating downtown Adrian businesses and the City of Adrian.
