Give all the glory to God in your work

June, 2022 – Faithful Living ~

Recently we were blessed to open another office in Manitou Beach. This decision to expand our footprint in the Irish Hills was not hastily made. In actuality, I have entertained the thought for many years. Finally, the dream became a reality.

What made our resolution easier was due to the fact the for nearly 40 years, George and Barbara Teller owned and operated Teller Realty in the building we now occupy. There were other Realtors that joined them in the work over the years. Their reputation for excellent service in extending kindness, honesty and integrity was legendary. As a testimony of these high professional standards, you would see their pink shell signs everywhere—from waterfront residences to second tier cottages and frankly all over the Irish Hills region. Out of respect and admiration for the Teller Family, we decided to open our second office in this location on Manitou Road.

On the day of the ribbon cutting ceremony with the Greater Lenawee Chamber and the Irish Hills Regional Chamber…during my devotional time, I was reading in the Book of Proverbs. For some reason, I turned the page back and Chapter 16:3 ESV was staring me right in the face. I spoke the words out loud a couple of times and meditated on the meaning. How wonderfully appropriate this verse was when presented to me; given at just the right time. This is how God works it, my friends. God knew that I would be gazing at them, then. His timing is always perfect. Here they are. “Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.”

Although we jammed another stake in the ground for Jesus on June 9th in the midst of a lake that bears the name of the Adversary, we remain committed to work in such a way that will please our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ…just like the Teller’s did.

Another indication of the providence of God is that although I had the desire to open an office in this area for years, it was not until now that the plans came to fruition. Sometimes doors open and at other times they close. All for reasons that are beyond our control. The following verse brings that truth to life. Proverbs 16:9 ESV states, “The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

No matter what your personal or professional work is, or has been, or will be—working with every fiber of your being to emulate and please our Lord, I believe should be of primary importance.

Everything that we do should be honoring to God. Colossians 3:23-24 NIV “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Sometimes it is difficult to pursue this high level of commitment especially when others are difficult to interface with. People and personalities get in the way and at times our motives, thoughts and words must be checked. If we have issues with bosses, coworkers, friends or family members…we need only to remember the attitude, countenance, and love expressed by Jesus toward those who disliked and distained Him during His earthly life. He is our model, our perfect example and the truest expression of what He desires us to be.

Acting toward others with a servant’s heart the Bible says, is in effect serving Jesus Himself. Yes, we all fall away on occasion, but our hope should always be to serve others well. Adopting this mindset even in the midst of adversity, will usher us closer in relationship to Jesus our Brother, Master and Friend.
